Abstract: 

A wide-ranging review of recent cases of abuse in nursing homes through the U.S. and the enforcement actions, including sizeable jury verdicts, which followed. Notable cases include those of Arlene Townsend at the Auburndale Oaks Health Care Center (Polk County, Florida) against Trans HealthCare, later Encore HealthCare; Dorothy Douglas (Heartland Charleston, WV); Margaret Barcenas (Sunset, Hemet, CA); Samuel Nevarrez at the San Marino (CA) Skilled Nursing and Wellness Centre; Elizabeth Cox in a suit brought by her daughters Kathleen Winn and Karen Bredahl; Helen Wyatt in Phoenix, AZ; and Martha Glover at the Solano (CA) Public Health House.
