Abstract:

An overview of a report released by the National Institute of Justice finds that no two programs worked the same way. On one hand, the report noted that protocols that are effective in one place might not translate elsewhere. On the other hand, the lack of uniformity suggests that there is not enough research from which to develop clear protocols on “what works” with youth generally and with developmentally delayed or disabled youth specifically.

Keywords: cognitive disabilities; mental health issues; recidivism rates; substance abuse; cognitive behavioral therapy; training guidelines; uniform methods of processing individuals and cases
