Abstract: 

Just days into the new year, Americans witnessed a brutal physical attack on a mentally disabled man when the video was posted on Facebook Live but the public revulsion brought national attention to hate crimes against the disabled. This article discusses the incident as well as the role of law enforcement in dealing with the mentally ill, the public attitudes toward the disabled, and the link between disablity and poverty.
