This piece begins by making an important distinction between “legal” and “clinical” sex offenders, and is followed by a brief discussion of the relationship between substance abuse and sex offending behavior and some of the obstacles to treating substance abusing sex offenders. The article concludes with the presentation of a recently proposed framework for addressing some of the obstacles to providing effective treatment to this unique population of offenders.
