Abstract:

The present study analyzes whether prison-based drug treatment programs are effective when offenders are forced to admit that they have addiction issues (as opposed to voluntary programs). Data from the California Department of Corrections is used to contradict prior evidence that coerced clients in substance abuse treatment programs do as well as or better than voluntary clients.
