Abstract:
This issue reviews three legal proceedings. Inmate Jackson unsuccessfully sought removal of Alcoholics Anonymous and other religious elements from Missouri Department of Corrections (MDOC) treatment programs on First Amendment (Establishment) grounds; an HIV-positive inmate at Rikers Island sued unsuccessfully for damages after being refused admission to group therapy sesssions conducted in Spanish; and a Florida facility\'s general ban on ring-binders (and specific ban on Sherrie Lemcool’s possession of a Wiccan Book of Shadows) did not violate First Amendment religious rights.Keywords: Jackson v.
