Abstract: 

Correctional professionals must understand addiction and addictive behavior given the large number of offenders with substance abuse problems. With the progression of research, we now know how addiction changes the brain. Still, there is no simple solution in sight for the millions of addicts in the United States. This article discusses addiction behavior and the need for early intervention for addicted offenders.
