Abstract:

This piece explains how the use of theatrical space and a theater tour for prisoners by prisoners was used as a mechanism to facilitate restorative justice. “A Body in Motion,” a play with themes that increase offenders’ sensitivity towards victims, was performed by Pennsylvania state prisoners for their peers. “A Body in Motion” demonstrated that restorative justice elements of harm, participation and restoration could be put into practice in a way never done before and that the application of the restorative justice philosophy is only limited by our own creativity.
