Abstract:

Both principals and correctional educators are aware of and concerned about the prevalence and challenges of children and youth involved in violence. Both agree that schools as well as other agencies need to collaborate and involve families. In providing wraparound services involving social services and mental health agencies, more attention should be directed toward the role of language and communication, as professionals consider social skills instruction, counseling, and the planning of academic programs. Ritzman et al. explain the obstacles that principals and correctional educators face when dealing with youth involved in violence and explain the importance of the roles that these professionals play.
