Abstract: 

This article draws upon lessons from the movie “Quiz Show,” a 1994 film directed by Robert Redford, to discuss the use of shaming techniques in jails and prisons. The movie depicts the true story of the “Twenty One” quiz show scandal of the 1950s and has an underlying theme of the effects of shame. This piece draws upon the use of shame in the movie to discuss the positive and negative implications of shame in the prison system.
