Abstract:

In this article, the author explores his experiences as a maintenance crew leader at NERCC, a minimum-security correctional facility in St. Louis County, Minnesota. The author has utilized “thinking reports” (an objective report about what a person was thinking or what a person did in a particular situation) and “thinking check-ins” (a shortened version of the thinking report that clients learn to use as they become better at doing thinking reports) as a means to keep at-risk youth out of trouble.
