Abstract:
This article is the first to collate and examine the applications of restorative justice to cases of domestic violence in the United States. This article has three parts: 1. A summary of the challenges in applying restorative justice to domestic violence that have been discussed at length, although mostly outside of the United States; 2. Qualitative interviews with the five known restorative justice programs currently responding to intimate-partner violence in the United States; and 3. a discussion on how we might use the knowledge we have gained from these active programs to identify the potential future direction for judicial response to domestic violence in the United States. Keywords: domestic violence; restorative justice
