Abstract:
Tarrant County launched the Felony Alcohol Intervention Project (FAIP) in November 2006 in response to increasing community safety concerns surrounding drunk driving. The project is a specialized drug court for adult offenders with a history of repeated arrests for driving while intoxicated (DWI). As part of FAIP, post adjudicated defendants with a minimum of three DWI convictions (including one felony DWI) complete a judicially supervised program of intensive probation and substance abuse treatment as they begin a journey toward achieving a healthier lifestyle This report summarizes the preliminary FAIP process and outcome findings for this first group of DWI defendants. Keywords: DWI; DUI
