Abstract:

The American Probation and Parole Association (APPA) is working to develop a DWI risk-assessment tool and training curriculum for community corrections professionals. This article provides an overview of the development of a pilot risk-assessment tool to classify DWI offenders on community supervision. The authors discuss their theoretical perspective regarding DWI recidivism, the methods used to develop the pilot risk assessment tool, and the key findings of a statistical analysis of the nearly 4,000 DWI offenders in their sample.
