Abstract:

This is an interesting custodial suicide case because it does not turn on the question of knowledge of the risk of suicide. The real question is: Just how emergent or imminent did Thomas (jail intake) believe the risk to be and were her preventive actions commensurate with the degree and imminence actually perceived?
