Abstract:

Electronic monitoring is usually associated with pretrial detention and parole and probation agencies, but its use in law enforcement is a well-kept secret. As Leonard Sipes illustrates, police investigative units are finding EM tracking devices worn by probationers or parolees increasingly useful in their crime investigations. As a DC homicide investigator put it, “We track these people down and get important leads that solve homicides and a variety of additional crimes. They may not have done the crime, but they may know who did.”
