Abstract:
Selecting an EM vendor and monitoring system is not unlike buying a new car: you look at the specifications, read reports, ask for references from friends and professionals, test drive, and figure out what you can afford. Looking at the technical features of the host system that powers EM supervision programs is like looking under the hood of a car. Supervising agencies should pay attention to and ask more questions about the host systems used to power the EM hardware and software they are evaluating. This critical “under the hood” component is just as important as the sending and receiving devices in ensuring the reliability, security, and accessibility of data generated as you track individuals in your EM program. The article extends this metaphor, providing guidelines for selecting a vendor and system. Keywords: Evaluating electronic monitoring software systems
