Abstract: 

Over the last decade a debate has been brewing over the part money bail plays in pretrial release decisions. This article introduces a special issue of the journal devoted to bail reform, assessing the ways in which bail reform might address socioeconomic disparities and overreliance on detention, promote greater fairness, and reduce jail overcrowding and its associated costs.
