Abstract:
Research conducted in the United States shows that 33% of fatally injured drivers with known drug test results tested positive for drugs other than alcohol. Among randomly stopped weekend nighttime drivers who provided specimens in 2007, 16.3% tested positive for drugs. Drugged driving is clearly a problem, but the U.S. has lagged behind other nations in research and enforcement. Keywords: National Drug Control Strategy, Fatality Analysis Reporting System, National Roadside Survey, Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) data collection system, standardized driver testing, Drug Impairment, Behavioral, and Treatment Research
