Abstract:

The American auto industry is on the rebound, and the world auto industry should take note. A new leaner, meaner, and consumer-focused industry has arisen, like the phoenix out of the ashes. It bodes well for America and the American worker. Chrysler is now operated by Italy’s Fiat Motors, led by CEO Sergio Marchionne, who has returned Fiat to profitability by cutting middle management and introducing well-designed fuel-efficient small cars such as the Fiat 500. Chrysler has the Jeep brand and the Ram tough trucks. Chrysler produced an advertising coup by advertising during the Super Bowl, and saw its market share rise. By combining small engines and the introduction of new models next year with a smart marketing campaign, Chrysler—thought to be dead— has returned to profitability.
