MADD Strategies to Reduce Impaired Driving 25% by 2008

Abstract:
In 2004, the number of people killed in alcohol related crashes dropped for the second year in a row. Still, there is little cause for celebration. An estimated 12,874 people were killed in crashes involving drivers with a BAC of 0.08 or higher. If the fatality rate continues to decline at the same rate it has over the last two years, it would take over four decades to end drunk driving. Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) has set a far more ambitious goal—a real step toward its vision of a nation without drunk driving. MADD aspires to reduce the fatalities resulting from drunk driving (crashes involving a driver with a 0.08 BAC or above) by at least 25% by the end of 2008.
