Abstract: 

Highway fatalities due to alcohol are on the increase. As headlined in a local newspaper on September 25, 2001, after a long period of gradual decline, the rate of death and injury from alcohol related motor vehicle accidents is on the rise again. Thus, it once again becomes imperative to address issues of identification and treatment of intoxicated drivers involved in alcohol-related motor vehicle crashes. This article will first discuss some new demographic information about the use of alcohol among young persons. Then, it will revisit the issue of the legal disposition of drivers with alcohol related injuries.
