Abstract:
Colleges and universities are said to be a “marketplace of ideas.” However, what happens when the free exchange of ideas seemingly conflicts with the goals, values, and mission of the university? Perhaps few other issues on a college campus can have such a lasting effect on the climate and culture of an institution as a challenge to the First Amendment. From the traveling preachers and visually shocking anti-abortion displays to out-and-out student or faculty protests and more, all can have a lasting impact on a college campus.Keywords: The First Amendment on Campus; National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA);
