Abstract:

It is well known in corrections that reentry for offenders starts on their first day of incarceration. To be truly successful in reentry, an offender’s issues (e.g., medical, mental-health, dental, substance-abuse, housing, faith, food, clothing, and educational problems) must be identified at intake and kept up to date throughout his or her incarceration. In addition, a modernized program to assist in all these areas must be developed and implemented while the offender is still serving time. At Corizon they believe they have developed such a program, in conjunction with the Missouri Department of Corrections (MDOC), which supports offenders once they are released.
