Abstract:

Outside of corrections, the telemedicine industry has grown rapidly over the last few years. Spurs to growth include agencies seeking ways to delivery health care services more cost effectively, movement towards a patient-centered approach, and major health care reform on the horizon. Telemedicine can provide high-quality health care services to patients with a wide range of indications, including heart disease, diabetes, and other chronic conditions. This article considers some of the obstacles to adoption of telemarketing in corrections and suggests some ideas for getting past these impediments in order to achieve the improvements in cost control that telemedicine can make possible while maintaining good standards of care.
