Abstract:

Heroin use has long been romanticized in music and movies of American pop culture. Young people who experiment with drugs are often as intrigued and enticed by the perceived air of mystery surrounding heroin use and the ritual of preparing heroin for injection, as they are interested in achieving intoxication. In general, the heroin used on the West Coast of the United States is the black tar form, while that on the East Coast is in powdered form. Black tar heroin is gooey, dark, and foul smelling, and it is sold in pieces that are wrapped in wax paper.
