Abstract: 

Preventing the Spread of Tuberculosis - Eighth Amendment Protects Prisoners From Situations Which May Endanger Their Health. In Loftin v Dalessandri, 2001 U.S. App. LEXIS 331 (10th Cir. January 6, 2001), the plaintiff had been confined for two weeks as a post-trial defendant in a four-person cell in the Garfield County Jail in Colorado. The Tenth and Fifth Circuit Courts of Appeals have recently come to different conclusions in cases involving alcohol withdrawal. Van Curen v. McClain County Board of County Commissioners, 2001 U.S. App. LEXIS 952 (10th Cir. January 23, 2001), arose as a result of the suicide of a county jail inmate who was suffering from delirium tremens. Drug Withdrawal Results in Suicide. In Brown v. Harris, 340 F.3d 383 (4th Cir. 2001), the prisoner in question committed suicide after he had been imprisoned for a probation violation on the action of his probation officer. How Much Should A Prison Doctor Take Upon Himself? Oxendine, an inmate at the Federal Correction Institution at Florence, Colorado, brought suit when he lost the severed the tip of his finger that he had caught in his cell door.
