Abstract: 

Health care professionals working in the correctional setting are facing challenging times. The foundation of this challenge is a population of incarcerated people enlarged by criminal justice policies that increased the frequency of incarceration and the length of sentence. Many correctional systems have also had to invest in their health care programs to meet the requirements established by the courts for adequate health care. After several years of cost containment and price stabilization, health care costs are on the rise again and correctional systems are less immune to market driven inflation.
