Abstract: 

The State of Connecticut, Judicial Branch, Court Support Services Division (CSSD) Juvenile Detention System currently includes three stateoperated male facilities located in Bridgeport, New Haven and Hartford, Connecticut, and female facilities contracted with private providers. The purpose of this paper is to describe the benefits and limitations of expanded health care services in custodial settings by the use of University and hospital-based contracts.
