Abstract:
At any given time, over 2 million people are incarcerated in prisons and jails in the U.S. (National Commission on Correctional Health Care, 2002). It is estimated that nearly 80,000 of these inmates have diabetes, a prevalence of 4.8% (Hornung et al., 2002). People with diabetes should receive care that meets national standards. Being incarcerated does not change these standards. Keywords: hypoglycemia, ketoacidosis, Alb/Cr Ratio, ALT, AST, Diabetes Mellitus, glucose, A1C, insulin
