Abstract:

Because most, if not all, Correctional Healthcare Management facilities house patients with a history of alcohol abuse, and because alcohol withdrawal syndrome should be treated quickly and aggressively, it makes sense to have an alcohol withdrawal protocol. The spectrum of withdrawal symptoms and the time range for the appearance of these symptoms vary after the cessation of alcohol intake. In general, the symptoms of withdrawal relate proportionately to the amount of alcohol intake and the duration of the patient’s drinking habit.
