Abstract:
Offender risk assessment is an integral component of the correctional system. Risk assessment can influence offenders’ security classifi cation, the programming offenders receive while incarcerated, their eligibility for temporary absences, and their release date. Accurate risk assessment can thus increase the ability to provide effective rehabilitation strategies as well as protect the community from dangerous offenders until the offender’s risk status decreases to a suitable level. One particularly powerful indicator of risk appears to be an individual’s substance abuse history. Keywords: Violent Recidivism, risk differentiation, narcissistic, Antisocial Personality Disorder, Alcohol, Drug Dependence
