Abstract:
Providing adequate health care for women has traditionally been a difficult challenge in correctional settings. While comprising a minority of inmates, women nevertheless have specialized and costly medical needs, particularly during pregnancy. Thus, diverting the resources needed to adequately care for this population has been problematic. During the 1980s, deficiencies came to light in a number of localities throughout the country, as a result of a series of classaction lawsuits on behalf of female inmates (Parker, 2004:278).Keywords: Jones, Dyer, OB/GYN, perinatal coordinator, midwife
