Abstract:

According to a recent report from PricewaterhouseCooper’s Health Research Institute, some of the top concerns for health care leaders include: • Cost reduction strategies; • Regulatory change; • Fraud and abuse mitigation; • Disaster planning; • Social responsibility; and • Keeping up with technology. These are signifi cant challenges for health care executives already burdened with increased competition for services, declining reimbursements, and lingering recessionary conditions. Many studies have attempted to link more effective board governance with stronger fi nancial performance and improved patient outcomes.
