Abstract: 

Marjorie Bell knows she will not make her next patient happy. He walks into the exam room in prison stripes and blue jailhouse slippers. Monday through Friday, Marj drives down the twisty two lanes of Old 56 Highway from her home in Olathe to the Johnson County jail, the New Century Adult Detention Center near Gardner. The nurses go to the inmates around the jail, and Marj’s shift in the 814-bed co-ed facility starts in a triage room with the diabetics. Some shifts she sees as many as 20 inmates.
