Abstract: 

The bacterial infection gonorrhea is becoming harder treat because the bacteria that causes it, Neisseria gonorrhoeae, has evolved resistance to the only treatment currently effective against it, ceftriaxone. This article summarizes our current understanding of the disease, reviews new drug developments, and suggests practical strategies for reducing infection in light of the grave health threat it now poses.
