Abstract:

Our regular review of important court decisions includes two cases. In Youngblood v. Trost, the 3rd Circuit ruled that no evidence suggested that, in the timing of hernia surgeries, any prison official had ignored a serious risk of harm to an inmate. In Prince v. Sheriff of Carter Cty, the 10th Circuit found a pattern of negligence, inadequate staffing, and deficient training contributed to the death of an inmate who exhibited bizarre behavior in the jail and then died as a result of the nurse’s allegedly substandard care.
