Abstract: 

Our regular survey of important research findings reviews papers dealing with inmates and serious chronic illness; incarceration and its effects on the health status of gender minorities; and the potential role of prison health in improving preventive health care for incarcertated women. Articles reviewed include “Incarcerated Individuals’ Perspectives on Living with Serious Illness“ by Alexa N. Kanbergs and Shayla N.M. Durfey, published in 102 Rhode Island Medical Journal 24 (2019); “Incarceration as a Health Determinant for Sexual Orientation and Gender Minority Persons“ by y Valerio Bacak, Kate Thurman, Katie Eyer, Rubab Qureshi, Jason D.P. Bird, Luis M. Rivera, and Suzanne A. Kim, published in 108 American Journal of Public Health 994 (2018); and “Prison: Pipeline to Women's Preventative Health" by Luwam Ghidei, Sebastian Z. Ramos, E. Christine Brousseau, and Jennifer G. Clarke, published in 101 Rhode Island Medical Journal 23 (2018).
