Abstract:

A recent research paper published in the journal Public Health Reports examined the prevalance of HCV infections among incoming inmates entering two Wisconsin prisons. The article, “Performance of Risk-Based and Birth-Cohort Strategies for Identifying Hepatitis C Virus Infection among People Entering Prison, Wisconsin, 2014” By Lauren J. Stockman, James Greer, Ryan Holzmacher, Beth Dittmann, Scott A. Hoftiezer, Lori E. Alsum, Audrey Prieve, Ryan P. Westergaard, Sheila M. Guilfoyle, and James M. Vergeront, sought to evaluate several risk-based strategies for identifying the disease in “jurisdictions where universal opt-out HCV testing is not feasible because of resource limitations.” The findings of this study have since been incorporated into WDOC testing protocols to identify those who will receive “community standard-of-care medical management for HCV infection.”
