Abstract: 

CDC conducted a clinical systematic review of the scientific evidence to identify the effectiveness, benefits, and harms of long-term opioid therapy for chronic pain. This section of the Opioid Guidelines addresses the primary clinical questions, review methods, and key findings with respect to effectiveness, harm, dosing strategies, risk assessment and mitigation, and effects on long-term use.
