Abstract: 

This is the full text of the “Recommendations” section of the guidelines. There are twelve principle recommendations covering three basic areas of practice: determining when to initiate or continue opioids for chronic pain; opioid selection, dosage, duration, follow-up, and discontinuation; and assessing risk and addressing harms of opioid use.
