Abstract:

The incidence of HIV and other sexually transmitted infections (STIs) among Incarcerated women is much higher than for either male inmates or women in the general population. In “Feasibility of an HIV/STI Risk-Reduction Program for Incarcerated Women Who Have Experienced Interpersonal Violence” by Jennifer E. Johnson, Marlanea E. Peabody, Wendee M. Wechsberg, Rochelle K. Rosen, Karen Fernandes, and Caron Zlotnick, published in “Journal of Interpersonal Violence,” the authors employ an intervention designed to promote safe sex, substance use harm reduction, and violence prevention skills through empowerment and adapt it to include management skills, skills to improve social relationships and resources, and re-entry specific information.
