Abstract:

Constitutionally, prison inmates have a right to adequate care for their serious illnesses. Hepatitis C is one of the most prevalent illnesses among inmates. And the new drug Sovaldi has proved remarkably effective in treating Hep C. The cost of Sovaldi, however, is enormous: $84,000 for a typical patient. Are U.S. prisoners legally entitled to Sovaldi to treat their hepatitis C?
