Abstract: 

Our regular survey of important research findings reviews papers dealing with an outbreak of Legionnaires’ Disease in the California prison system and an analysis of King County jail admissions that found high viral suppression levels among inmates who had undergone HIV screening and appropriate treatment during booking, with positive results enduring after release into the community. Reviewed are “Outbreak of Legionnaires’ Disease Associated with Cooling Towers at a California State Prison, 2015” by K. D. Lucas, C. Wheeler, P. McLendon, B. N. Leistikow and J. C. Mohle-Boetani, published in Epidemiology an Infection (2018); and “Jail Booking as an Occasion for HIV Care Reengagement: A Surveillance-Based Study” by McKenna C. Eastment, Katelynne Gardner Toren, Lara Strick, Susan E. Buskin, Matthew R. Golden, and Julia C. Dombrowski, published in American Journal of Public Health (2017).
