Abstract:
This article summarizes the findings in “Medical Student Experiences in Prison Health Services and Social Cognitive Career Choice: A Qualitative Study,” a study Ron Brooker, Wendy Hu, Jennifer Reath, and Penelope Abbott, recently published in BMC Medical Education. Recruiting qualifed health professionals into custodial health services is difficult. In Australia, medical students can choose to do some of their general practice work in correctional facilities. This article explores the premise that “[i]t is likely that career preferences are influenced by educational experiences as students.”Keywords: Medical school General Practice placements in prisons
