Abstract:
Perhaps no example in medical practice better exemplifies the necessity of a team approach to health care than correctional health care. The cost of care of inmates and detainees has risen disproportionately when compared to an agematched cohort in the general population. This rise is largely due to the prevalence and incidence of psychiatric diagnoses as well as the consequences of high-risk behaviors of our patients in corrections.Substance abuse, high-risk sexual activity and environmental exposures are but a few of the contributing factors. Keywords: pharmacotherapeutics, Distribution, drug interactions, Unit dose packaging, pharmacoeconomics, Over-The-Counter, Psychotropic
