Abstract:

Nixon details the benefits of increasing levels of education for current and former inmates. She suggests that access to formal learning is particularly important for female inmates, as education can be particularly effective in combating the particular pathways to crime that women often encounter. Nixon provides legislative recommendations for the academic system for inmates that could maximize inmate potential to return to their respective communities while minimizing recidivism rates.
