Abstract:
The year 2003 will be known as a watershed in the confrontation between scientific research and the alcohol industry. The National Institute on Alcoholism and Alcohol Abuse report on Underage Drinking: A Major Public Health Challenge is the initial cannon shot across the alcohol industry’s bow. The following report is a watershed summary of not only “A Major Health Challenge,” but the number one health problem of teenagers. This report, along with the long awaited and delayed Council on Scientific Affairs (CSA) of the American Medical Association, should initiate new litigation as well as state and federal laws.Keywords: National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA); (NHTSA);
