Abstract: 

Most administrators and researchers agree that there is no single approach to the problem which will provide a complete solution. Typically, colleges rely on a combination of programs—such as environmental management, peer counseling, and social norming—to reduce drinking and its negative consequences. This article focuses on the debate over the effectiveness of social norms in this effort.
