Abstract: 

According to the National Institute of Justice, “a formal policy that addresses sexual assault on a campus is a statement of the school’s commitment to recognizing and dealing with the problem.” NIJ researchers have recommended that campuses have a policy that includes explicit and behavioral definitions of “consent,” “sexual offense,” and other terminology and practices. In the campus setting, sexual violence policies and prevention programs may exist but may not be easily accessed. In order to meet federal laws, policies should be widely and easily accessible to the campus community. An easy-to-find sexual assault policy, including definitions and services, is important for helping students recognize and report a sexual assault.
